Formed around the Var river, the Haut Var is a beautiful area north of the A8 motorway which crosses the Var West to East. Besides the region of the Verdon Gorges, it also includes part of Provence and Draguignan region. A great place to connect with nature and take a breath of fresh air ...
Needless to present the Verdon Gorge, one of the most beautiful sites in France! Succession of landscapes each more beautiful than each others, the Gorges du Verdon form a canyon (the highest in Europe) from Moustier-Ste-Marie, where pottery is king in Castellane. You can walk along the canyon via the roads that overlook it, or choose the option rafting or canoeing on the Verdon, to enjoy an incomparable view.
The Gorges du Verdon open into the Lake of Ste Croix: do not hesitate to make a stop. Surrounded by breathtaking nature, this lake offers you great moments of relaxation and bathing.
This majestic site is also home to small villages, some of which are ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. Discover: Cotignac, including pretty streets are overhung of an impressive cliff in which there are still inhabited cave houses; Tourtour, known as the "village in the sky", which offers a panorama of all beauty; or Aiguines, overlooking the Lac de Ste Croix. Aups is a typical Provençal village and Régusse and these mills are worth visiting. Much less touristy of the canyon, the villages also offer you the peace you are looking to relax. Do not miss either: the visit of the Thoronet Abbey.
Green Provence deserves its name with its hills covered with pine and oak trees and vineyards that give the famous rosé de Provence. It is also an ideal playground in this peaceful and relaxing beautiful scenery for hikers and walkers.
